Our Sanctuary

Dive deeper into the inner-workings of our company. More than merely planting seeds, we nurture whole eco-systems and all that live in it. Every aspect was meticulously planned, every life carefully considered. From our trees, down to the hands that care for them, everyone and everything is meant to thrive in our sanctuary.

ECOSYSTEM

More than a farm

A place to grow, with room to learn, and a community to support. A web of interconnectivity – plants, animals, and people, all come together to benefit from the system we built. Initial testing is done in partnership with the local university lab. Our young farmers and keepers are local university graduates who were referred to us by their professors who conducted the initial site assessment. They sow the seeds of trees that grow fruit. Fruit that we prioritize selling to the local community. A local community fully integrated into our operations, whose customs and savvy we take inspiration from. Who in turn advocate for us, and support our growth wholeheartedly. In the farm young intellectuals work with local keepers to connect tradition and innovation, creating an ecosystem strong enough to stand the test of time.

More than a farm, but a living food forest. Every plant that grows on our farm is carefully selected to have more than one purpose; to feed the community, feed the bees, and keep the forest alive all at the same time. It’s more than just farming for us – we are actively transforming what regenerative farming can be, while preserving Kalimantan’s rainforests. We prioritize cultivating native flora as a way to reduce biological invasion, and conserve endangered plant species. Our seed banks house the seeds of all the plants we grow in hopes that it will help endangered and near extinct plants recover.

with more to come each year

Carefully planned through meticulous research, every aspect of our farm is executed according to the scientific method. Every method applied is true, and proven to benefit each factor in the ecosystem; from soil fertility, to overall plant health. We start by first conducting extensive survey and testing of the land to understand its inner-workings. From the details, we identify the forests’ needs and build improvements to the existing environment. Our efforts maximize Kalimantan’s rainforests’ potential not just as a host for unique biodiversity, but as part of the nation’s sustainable food system. We are more than just farmers and beekeepers – we’re scientists and researchers. We spend time on the fields not just to garden, and gather data. We build resilience through extensive research, applying knowledge and executing new and innovative ways to transform Indonesia’s food systems.

keepers of the forest

Not just efficient pollinators, but hard workers keeping our operation alive. A big part of AMS’ operations revolve around bees and their byproducts. We also go the extra mile, by ensuring that each jar is sanitized and heated we guarantee that our honey will last longer, and taste better than other brands. Our treatment process guarantees that the honey you buy won’t ferment or crystalize as fast as other brands. Our dedication to permaculture will also give each jar a diverse flavor profile; by providing diverse flora for the bees to get their pollen from, it makes the honey they produce that much richer in flavor.

Heterotrigona itama

Kalimantan Stingless Bee

This specific species of bees is indigenous to the island of Kalimantan. Their bodies are significantly smaller, and they don’t sting. The honey they produce is valued significantly higher in the market due to its rarity, distinct flavor, and multitude of health benefits. Its honey is sweet, with a bit of a sour aftertaste – different from the honey you get from regular honey bees. It’s also much higher in antioxidants, so many cultures cultivate these bees for medicinal purposes. These bees are also the only species to produce Propolis – the resin that many Asian cultures consider as a miracle drug – in abundance.

Madu Kelulut

Stingless Bee Honey

Sweet and sour with a fruity aftertaste, the honey produced by our stingless bees is truly one of a kind. Only found in a few asian regions, we are blessed to be able to rear such rare bees that produce this liquid gold – in a symbolic sense. Unlike regular bee honey, our stingless bee honey doesn’t have that distinct yellow hue. Depending on the weather and season, our honey’s first harvest can vary in color; from a light sugary brown, to an opaque yellow, our keepers are always in for a surprise. As the honey ages, its color turns darker, and its flavor profile deeper. Every spoonful is sure to give you a different mouthfeel, and guaranteed to be the perfect health booster. Higher in antioxidants, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties, it’s highly sought over by those looking for a natural immune booster, or a healthier alternative to sugar.

The Traditional Panacea

Propolis

Considered by many as a cure all, the stingless bee’s natural defense mechanism is packed full of flavonoids and polyphenol that give it its antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. Countless experiences have told us it’s the perfect solution to sore throats, common colds, small wounds, and even acne. Use it as a potent health booster, or as medicine to heal your ailments. Add a few drops of our tincture to your drink, or have it straight for a quicker supplement. Highly concentrated, all-natural, and conveniently bottled for your daily wellness routine.
